🚀 Getting Started

Welcome to Tamil Practice! This app helps you learn and practice the Tamil alphabet through interactive quizzes. Here's everything you need to know to get started.

What You'll Learn

🔐 Sign In & Authentication

To save your progress and access all features, you need to sign in with your Google account.

How to Sign In

1. Click "Sign in with Google" button on the login screen
2. Select your Google account from the popup window
3. Grant permissions when prompted (we only access your basic profile info)
4. You're in! The app will remember you on this device

Why Sign In?

• Save your quiz scores and progress
• Create and edit your student profile
• Access your quiz history
• Generate and submit score reports
• Sync settings across devices

👤 Profile Setup & Management

After signing in for the first time, you'll be asked to create your student profile.

Creating Your Profile

1. First Name: Enter your first name
2. Last Name: Enter your last name
3. Grade: Enter your current grade (e.g., "5th Grade")
4. Section: Enter your class section (e.g., "A", "B")
5. Click "Save Profile" to complete setup

You can view your profile information anytime by clicking the profile icon (👤) and selecting "View Profile".

Accessing Settings

Available Settings

📝 Input Mode

• Multiple Choice: Select the correct answer from 4 options (easier)
• Keyboard Construction: Build the character using vowel and consonant buttons (harder)

🎯 Quiz Scope

• Vowels Only: Practice only Tamil vowel characters (அ, ஆ, இ, etc.)
• Consonants Only: Practice only Tamil consonant characters (க், ங், ச், etc.)
• Vowels + Consonants Only: Mix of vowels and consonants (default, recommended)

⏱️ Timer Mode

• Individual Timer: Each question has its own timer (e.g., 30 seconds per question)
• Total Timer: One timer for the entire quiz session (e.g., 5 minutes total) - Default

⏰ Timer Duration

• Individual Timer: Set time per question (5-60 seconds)
• Total Timer: Set total quiz time (30-300 seconds / 0.5-5 minutes)

🎮 Playing the Quiz

Starting a Quiz

1. Click the "Start Quiz" button on the main screen
2. Listen to the audio pronunciation of the Tamil character
3. Select or construct the correct character
4. Get instant feedback on your answer
5. Click "Next Question" to continue

During the Quiz

• 🔊 Audio: Each character is pronounced automatically. Listen carefully!
• ⏱️ Timer: Watch the timer bar at the top (color changes as time runs out)
• ⏭️ Skip: Click "Skip" if you don't know the answer
• 👁️ Reveal: Click "Reveal Answer" to see the correct character
• 📊 Score: Your score is displayed in the top right corner

Quiz Controls

When Time Expires (Total Timer Mode)

When the total timer runs out:

• The quiz ends automatically
• Your final score is displayed
• You can "Start New Quiz" to try again
• You can "Submit Report" to save your score

📊 Score Reports

Generate beautiful PDF reports of your quiz performance and submit them to track your progress.

Generating a Report

1. Click the 📋 Report button (top right on desktop, in menu on mobile)
2. Review your score summary:
   • ✅ Correct answers
   • ❌ Mistakes
   • ⏭️ Skipped questions
   • 📈 Percentage score
3. Your profile information is automatically filled in
4. Click "Download PDF" to save the report
5. Click "Submit Score" to save it to your account

• Kid-Friendly Design: Colorful and easy to read
• Complete Information: Includes student info, quiz settings, and scores
• Printable: Perfect for sharing with teachers or parents
• Saved History: Submitted scores are saved to your account

For Best Learning Results

• Start with Vowels: Begin by practicing vowels only, then move to consonants
• Use Audio: Always listen to the pronunciation - it helps with recognition
• Practice Regularly: Short daily sessions are better than long occasional ones
• Challenge Yourself: Gradually increase difficulty (try keyboard construction mode)
• Track Progress: Submit reports regularly to see your improvement

🔧 Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Audio Not Playing

• Check your device volume
• Make sure your browser allows audio playback
• Try refreshing the page

Can't Sign In

• Make sure you have a Google account
• Check your internet connection
• Try using a different browser
• Clear your browser cache and cookies

Settings Not Saving

• Make sure you're signed in
• Check your internet connection
• Try signing out and back in

Report Not Generating

• Make sure you've completed at least one question
• Check that your profile is complete
• Try refreshing the page
